When Simon participated in the Firemen’s Jam at the SHFD earlier this year, we got to met some extraordinary fire fighters, police officers and family members. One such person was NYPD’s Mike McBride, who told us the remarkable story of his daughter Katie’s fight against childhood leukemia and the foundation created to honor her memory, raise awareness of the disease and help raise funds for Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. ( Read Katie’s story ). We were touched by his family’s story, their courage and the support the foundation receives from their extended family at the South Hempstead Fire Department.

The Katie McBride Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 2010 with the mission to honor the memory of Katie and families of the victims of childhood leukemia and other life-threatening diseases.
