Let them eat cake – at The Vic – Swindon

In Tour Diary by Kathy

The final night of the tour was at The Vic in Swindon.

As Simon posted on Facebook:

That’s it folks! My Secret Weapon tour is over. Amazing gig at The Vic in Swindon. Brilliant venue, superb sound system and wonderful listening crowd. A great way to end my tour. I have to thank everyone involved…. The stunning musicians:… Phil Spalding, Tony Lowe and Greg Pringle. Mark Biddington my guitar tech and stage hand, Janie Townshend, my wife for selling CD’s, Cheryl Stringall for filming and last but definitely not least, Shaun Walker my agent / manager for making it all happen on time and under budget. I actually made some money, too… which was a bonus.

I really can’t say how enjoyable the whole thing has been, although gruelling hard work at times; flying between Turin, Trieste, Birmingham, Paris and London in order to do the Daltrey / Tommy tour in the same time frame, I have loved every minute. I realise that I can no longer neglect my own music. Playing my own songs is where I get my real, pure satisfaction. I am so excited about the future. I already have some cool festivals, and shows to announce in the next few days and a new video / single to release very soon. There are exciting times ahead.

I should also say thanks to Mark Brzezicki and Mike Peters from Big Country / The Alarm for coming to Portmeirion (Mark also at the Tropic, Ruislip) and joining me on a few songs. Thanks also to all the support acts along the way and my sponsors, Pete from Modrophenia, Lambretta and Delicious Junction. Also, a big thank you to Kathy Van Tassell for keeping my website updated as and when news and updates came in.

Finally, I want to thank you, the fans for the support you have given me and the fantastic reaction to the new CD, Looking Out Looking In. We sold loads along the way and I’m sure it’s not going to stop. The music, new and old, has been so well received.

Oh, and thanks so much for the cake, Shaun (supplied by Slice Of Imagination). That, with a cup of hot, steaming tea rounded the whole tour off beautifully. I am going to bed now, in my own bed and I expect I will sleep for a week…. My body aches and I’m knackered but I’m totally fulfilled.
